From the moment we arrived, we were greeted like royalty!

Flanked by large columns, the entrance to the Westin Rio Mar, is both stylish and intimate, welcoming visitors with its warm, elegant architecture. This 694-room charming luxury resort is situated on 500 acres. Opened in 1996, the Rio Mar is a favorite of locals and tourists alike. Located on Puerto Rico's beautiful northeast coast, only 19 highway miles to the east of San Juan's Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, off Puerto Rico Highway 3, Rio Mar, is a seven-story contemporary interpretation of an upscale Caribbean manor house with pitched, red-tiled roofs, balconies and terraces in a lushly landscaped setting. A friendly, congenial staff is on hand, anticipating one's every need.

There are 694 Guest Rooms, including 58 spacious one-two and three-bedroom Ocean Villas and 72 Suites in four categories, from Junior to Governor. Seventy percent of the rooms face the ocean; thirty percent face the golf courses, or the mountains of the Caribbean National Forest, known as "El Yunque." Each and every room offers private balconies or patios, king and double-double beds, and includes, AM/FM clock radio, 25 inch TV, 24 hour room service, in-room telephone voice mail, refrigerated mini-bar, in-room safe and electronic security lock system. The Ocean Villas, which opened in October 2000, are the Caribbean's newest luxury two and three bedroom beach front villas, offer exclusive services such as personalized, pre-arranged vacation itineraries, tea time, spa services and dinner reservations. Located on the top floor, the Royal Beach Club, a 68 room concierge floor is designed for those guests who want personalized service with upgraded amenities. Guests will find fresh orchids, telescopes, candies, monogrammed robes, and a choice of two daily newspapers. Food service throughout the day starts at 6:30 a.m. with continental breakfast. There are early afternoon snacks; drinks and hors d'oeuvres are offered during the cocktail hour.

Convention Facilities:
The Westin Rio Mar features the largest ballroom in the Caribbean! This is the first comprehensive meeting resort in the region and the first "from the ground" up property to be built in Puerto Rico in 15 years. The hotel includes two ballrooms, one of which is 21,000 square feet. A 6,500 square foot junior ballroom has the ability to divide into three smaller rooms. In addition to the ballrooms, the resort provides 24 meeting rooms, including a permanent boardroom. In all, the resort offers 48,000 square feet of indoor meeting and function space, and more than 10,000 square feet of outdoor beachfront and garden areas, where convention members can celebrate their achievements in a variety of extraordinary venues.

The Westin Rio Mar boasts two championship golf courses, including the Tom & George Fazio Ocean Course with its famous oceanfront 16th hole and the new Greg Norman River Course, a golf clubhouse and pro shop. There is also a Peter Burwash Tennis Center with 13 Har-Tru tennis courts, a spa and health club, a fitness center, a beauty salon, a full-service casino, four freeform pools, a toddler splash pool, a Jacuzzi, a waterslide, a basketball court, 12 dining and entertainment spots, as well as designer shops and boutiques.

We loved the pools, particularly the one just for adults!

Water sports include Puerto Rico's most comprehensive array of beach and water activities, a PADI 5-Star dive shop, wave runners, parasailing, kayaking down the Mameyes River, windsurfing and more.

I wish I were a kid again!

Camp Iguana features one of the top children's programs in the Caribbean. Kids now have their own fully supervised program and may take advantage of all the activities offered at the Westin Rio Mar. The center is comprised of three rooms, including a TV room (convertible to a sleeping room for late night campers), an arts and crafts room, and one general playroom. Children can be enrolled on half or full day basis. The center is closed from 3-5p.m., reopening at 5 p.m. and closing at midnight. After 5 p.m., the center offers supervision at an hourly rate. Arrangements can be made before or after arrival.

Behind the doors of Le Spa and a state-of-the-art fitness center, an array of unique massage, aromatherapy and beauty treatments await guests. Personalized one-on-one training sessions are available, along with a Micro-Fit Fitness Evaluation. Fully equipped, the gym includes, Trotter 545 treadmills, selectorized machines, Universal AerobicCycle V's, Stairmaster 4000 PT Climbers, squat racks and Smith Machines, free weights and fixed barbells, separate saunas, showers, personal lockers and a full range of amenities, including hair dryers, towels and robes.

Dining & Entertainment:

We never had to leave the property to enjoy a variety of delicious dining experiences!

Executive Chef Gregory Carroll oversees seven different venues: Marbella is the stunning main dining room. Encompassed by soaring ceilings and lots of windows, it's the place to enjoy breakfast and lunch, as well as extensive international dinner buffets. Palio offers Northern Italian food in an intimate setting; Shimas Asian Bistro and Sushi Bar, Club Coqui and Cobitos are two outdoor venues. Specializing in seafood, The Tiki Bar, and Ocean Villas Restaurant, are our favorite place to eat under the stars. The Grille Room, where we enjoyed the very finest meal is located in the Rio Mar Country Club and is meticulously supervised by Chef Don Lennon. For a quick bite there's Cactus Jack's right by the tennis courts. To help quench the thirsty, four bars punctuate the property. Room Service was incredible!!

I want to stay longer than a week at Rio Mar!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Westin Rio Mar. Puerto Rico is a destination without comparison. The balmy weather is only equaled by the lush plantings and the cordiality of its people. Rio Mar is a self-contained resort. You can be as active or relaxed as you want to be. There is so much to offer, so many places to eat, a mile-long beach, whirlpools, hideaway places to read or write, the week seems to fly by.
