Hotel Quirinale // With a touch of age old sophistication and charm, the Hotel Quirinale is the perfect place to unwind and relax.

Located about 10 minutes from the Spanish Steps and adjacent to the Rome Opera House, the Hotel Quirinale is a home away from home to both Italian and International clientele who enjoy its spacious and quiet rooms. Its history dates back to the mid 1800's and it has been host to international royalty, cultural elite and Roman aristocracy ever since. Its reputation for fine cuisine and excellent service has remained steadfast throughout the years. Continental breakfast is served daily in the gardens and a perfect way to start a day of sightseeing. Today the Hotel Quirinale with its 200 rooms is available for meetings, conferences and receptions as well as for the guest who is looking for a quiet spot to relax after a long day of exploring the Eternal City.

Places to see // The question is where to begin? The choice is enormous -- the Coliseum, forum, the ghetto, Testavere, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the Via Veneto, the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's, the 7 hills, or a drive through the countryside to Hadrian's Villa and Tivoli Gardens. The decision is difficult. It depends on your own taste. Do you want to learn about ancient Roman History? Are you looking for a religious pilgrimage? Do you want to get a sense of how the people live today? Or, do you just want to do it all? When one hears the phrase, "all roads lead to Rome", no truer words could ever be spoken. The decision is yours, Rome is there to be studied, savored and enjoyed.

Places to eat // To savor the taste of Italy, one has a major dilemma because there are so many wonderful restaurants in all price ranges. From the neighborhood trattoria to exquisite dining, one can enjoy homemade pasta, pizza, veal, fresh vegetables and of course, gelato in any flavor, not to mention the wide selection of wine to wet your palette. An especially delightful area for dining and an after-dinner stroll is Testavere. There's something here for everyone!

Shopping // A walk down the Via Veneto and surrounding area will take care of all of your shopping needs. If you can't find it here, you just won't find it!

Transportation // Driving in Rome could be enough to spoil one's vacation. Parking is limited, rules are scarce, streets are narrow and taxis and public transportation are excellent, so why look for a headache! Major hotels have airport shuttles or arrangements with private cars with English-speaking drivers. Seeing Rome on foot is truly the best way to get a true feel for the city and its history, but hiring a private car is essential for getting to the countryside.

Tips // In summer, especially, Rome is hot. Light clothes are recommended for the spring and summer and comfortable walking shoes or sneakers are a must. While some restaurants encourage more formal dining, it is wise to check with the concierge to avoid embarrassment. A word to the wise - wear your money tucked away in a waistband wallet, separate your credit cards, avoid the gypsies who use children to divert your attention and be street smart - then you'll have a great time.

The Hotel Quirinale was the perfect place for us on our first trip abroad. We were welcomed with open arms and treated as if we were one of the dignitaries who very often stay at the Quirinale while attending the Opera. A historic hotel with all the charm and grace of antiquity, the Hotel provided the amenities for guests to make one feel comfortable. While an elevator ride might not seem like anything spectacular, the elevator in the Hotel Quirinale was one that you would only find in picture books and could only be described as charming. My memories of our Roman Holiday will always be rich and warm, thanks to the staff of the Quirinale.
